To the Africans fuming against POTUS Trump, I say: Go and get and READ Frantz Fanon books. I recommend especially these two:

  1. The Wretched of the Earth
  2. Black Skin, White Mask

End of term: Key ideas of Frantz Fanon on Colonisation ...

In many of my writings, I lamented that we are not champions when it comes to learning useful lessons from history.

Tragically, for a people that suffered the twin carnage of the horrendous Slavery and Colonialism, we stubbornly refused to allow history to be our guide.

No one who studied European HIStory will be surprised about the racism and fascism currently trending in Europe.

History tells us that Europeans have always sought to solve THEIR problems at the expense of OTHER people.

As an Excercise, try to Google up and read about the Armleder Band that roamed what is today’s Germany in the 1400s.

When we write about these types of affairs, the apologists for neo-colonialism accused us of reverse-racism, Afrocentrism blah, blah, blah!

Today, we have Mr. Trump removing all the masks of pretensions and exposing the United States of America for what it exactly is: a virulently and irredeemably RACIST society, which was built on colossal avarice and violence, and maintained by manipulation and optics.

In one of his most important books, The Wretched of the Earth (published in 1961), Frantz had this to say about the USA: “Two centuries ago, a former European colony decided to catch up with Europe. It succeeded so well that the United States of America became a monster, in which the taints, the sickness, and the inhumanity of Europe have grown to appalling dimensions.”

We refused to read Fanon. We refused to read the writings of our thinkers and prophets – we prefer to lap up the faux history and hagiography Europeans and other people concocted to celebrate themselves.

We feel educated, elevated and immensely satisfied once we can, like parrots, regurgitate foreign ideas.

Then, Mr. Trump and the Italian guy, Salvini, lob potent darts into our faces, dazed, we scratch our heads and cannot come up with coherent replies.

If we had hearkened to the voice of Fanon would we be staggering around today, babbling incoherent nonsenses, when Trump boldly and audaciously told elected members of the US Congress to “Go back to where they came from?”

It shall never be said that some of us did not do our best!
