A visit to a Dog Salon in Amsterdam

Somewhere in the East of the city of Amsterdam, in the Netherlands is a thriving dog-grooming business – Reino Canino Hondentrimsalon.

Honden is dogs in Dutch. The salon is run like any other modern business. Well-appointed in the vicinity of the famous Dapper Market, it is tastefully furnished and showered with all the bells plus the whistles of a modern office. Like any business here, you need to make appointments which is duly registered into computer. Business practice follow strictly modern practice.

The only difference is that the Clients here are Dogs. Yes, our famous and loyal companions, DOGS.

To many Africans, the very idea of a salon for a dog borders on the laughable/ridiculous, but say that not in the Netherlands, or in the West, where people spare no effort or expense to make their Canine friends shine.

We do not talk of ordinary shine here in this salon, Mister. There are more shampoos, soaps, creams, pomades and perfumes here than you will find in many Human salons in Africa. All of them to ensure that your Dog will smell divine. There are baths and dryers and towels and tables to make dogs yap happily. There is a Parrot to tattle to the dogs while they wait for their turn.

And what will all those bathing and shampooing achieve if there are no nice cloths to go with the outing, ehn? Not to worry, the Salon stock enough well-tailored dog-dresses to ensure that your Canine friend look gorgeous on the Catwalk. There are even hand bags for those that would like to up with fashion ante.

As loudly proclaimed by the tasteful banner than hang on its door, the salon perform such nice functions like washing, drying, styling, trimming the hair on your dogs, and they round things off nicely with a, don’t gasp, pedicure.

To the two enthusiastic owners, taking care of dogs is very good business. They love dogs and to them, it is a god-sent bonus that people are willing to pay them to do what they, naturally, love. And to busy owners who need to make a booking in order to get their dogs well-accessorized, it was a service worth paying for. Everyone is happy.

Let the pictures speak for themselves as we welcome you to Reino Canino Hondentrimsalon.
